What's on in Stoke

Stoke-sub-Hamdon Community Shop

Stoke will soon have its own community-run and owned shop: Stoke-sub-Hamdon Community Shop.

It is opening in the existing Shop at the Cross, so we’ll still have a grocery store, newsagents and Post Office in the Centre of Stoke when the current owners, Pam and John Young, retire early in 2020.

Stoke Community Shop is being set up by a group of villagers who are working together to fundraise and make this project a reality.

We want to make sure that everyone in our village – particularly our older citizens and those without easy access to transport – has a convenient local store on their doorstep.

We also plan to transform the shop into a focal hub for the people of Stoke, bringing all ages and abilities together, and providing information about – and help with accessing – services and support.

How you can help us

Because we’re run by the community for the community, we need two things to help us get up and running: your money and your support!

If you’d like to know more about:

  • volunteering in the shop
  • helping us with fundraising

Or you would like to:

  • make a donation
  • lend us your time and skills to get the shop up and running

About Stoke-sub-Hamdon Community Shop Limited

Stoke-sub-Hamdon Community Shop Limited is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

We aim to be sustainable – that is, to make enough profit to keep the shop running; in the future, we hope to be able to support other local community projects financially as well.
